1 Year Smash Cake Session
We start with some nice family photos, documentation of your mini-me being mini and cute, then we dive right in to the smashing of the cake!
We'll get pictures of the little one's first look, first touch, and first taste.
We'll get closeups on their little mouths, eyes, fingers and toes.
I don't know about you, but I LOVE going through old photos. Being the passionate photographer of the family, I have a LOT of photos in my house. I have photos from the 50's of my grandparents, and let me tell you how amazing it is to go through those photos. It's so interesting to look back at the fashion, look back at the interaction, look back at the backgrounds. I don't know if my life would be complete without these photos in my life.
I also love looking at old family photos of me as a child with the family. I love seeing how much my gran and gramps loved me. How they held me, kissed me, made me laugh. They're gone now, but I still have those memories, and I get that flood of raw emotion every time I look at those photos. Those photos are priceless to me. They are timeless. They are the family legacy. Once people are gone, all we have left of them are the photos and the memories. That's why I've always found it to be so important to document those candid, everyday hours together.
There's a document going around the Interwebs that I share every time I see it, and I'm going to share it here with you. Moms, this is for you. I see you there, behind your phones, taking all the photos. And don't get me wrong, I applaud you for your love and happiness that you have when you do it, but, your kids will want to see you in the photos. Get your partners to take some candid photos of you in the backyard, on the couch, putting the kids to bed. Those every day moments are special. At Christmas, get in the photos. On vacation, have a stranger take your photo, like this:
I wish I could sit here and tell you how important professional photos are and that you should only have professional photos done by me in your home, but, that's just not the case. Some of my favourite photos of us as a family are so imperfect. They're sideways, everyone is goofy. But you know what that shows me? That we haven't changed. We're just a bunch of big, sideways seeming goofs. And I wouldn't change it for the world, and I hope you won't either.
